Q. How much is the entry fee for Wessex Folk Festival Weymouth?
A. Wessex Folk Festival Weymouth is free.
Q. What time do the gates open?
A. There are no gates, as the festival takes place along Weymouth Harbour, which is a public street. We close the road and Hope Square to traffic while the festival is going on, but not to pedestrians/wheelchairs. So come and go as you please. It's a free festival.
Q. Can I bring my own food and drink?
A. Yes, as long as you don't consume it in a local hostelry's or trader's seating area.
Q. Can I bring camping chairs?
A. Yes, please do. There are a few chairs provided in front of the stages, but you are welcome to bring your own along, too.
Q. Can I bring a little day-tent?
A. No. There is no grass to secure tents in and there is not enough room for any tents. They would obscure the view for other festival-goers.
Q. Are children allowed?
A. Yes, children are positively encouraged.
Q. Can I camp overnight?
A. No. We don't have any camping facilities at the festival. But there is ample accommodation in and around Weymouth.
Q. How near is the festival site to the main town?
A. The festival takes place along Weymouth Old Harbour, which is just a few yards (over the bridge) from Weymouth's main town centre.
Q. Is there public transport to the festival?
A. Yes. Weymouth is on the main train lines from London and Bristol, as well as Cornwall and other areas. The festival site is about a mile walk through the town, from the train station. There is a good local bus service.
Q. The festival has people collecting money, in buckets. What is that for?
A. The festival is a non-profit organisation, run by volunteers. There are certain expenses involved in running a festival such as this, like hiring the stages, paying the performers, cost of road closures, etc. We are able to raise funds through such channels as local advertising and sponsorship, trade stall fees, programme sales, etc. However, we know from experience that many of our regular festival-goers like to show their appreciation of the excellent music, Morris dancing and great atmosphere at this free festival. Putting money in the bucket helps the festival keep going year after year, although it is by no means a requirement.
